LEAH stands for Loving Education At Home. Ithaca LEAH is just one of many local chapters of NYS LEAH, which is a state-wide Christian homeschooling support network. When you join Ithaca LEAH, you become a member of the statewide organization as well. Our local chapter offers many activities and opportunities for homeschooling families in the Tompkins county area, including monthly support meetings, a discount on ice skating, monthly field trips, Christmas crafts day, a Science fair, a Social Studies fair, an Art show, and so much more!
Our membership currently stands at about 70 families representing about 25 area churches. We are a very active and diverse group. We expect that our members will find some way to contribute their gifts and talents to the activities we do to help support one another as homeschoolers. This could mean hosting a support meeting, organizing a field trip, teaching a Coop class, writing articles for our Newsletter, or any of a number of things, but we strongly encourage each member to be actively involved in some way.
One of the largest support activities is Coop, where we meet together to teach our children in a group setting and to build friendships. Coop is not meant for teaching the core curriculum, but is instead a fun way for homeschooling parents to add in Phys Ed, Art, Music, Drama, and many other electives for all ages. Classes are taught by parents and the subjects vary each semester. We end each Coop semester with Coop Night, an evening of presentations, performances and displays.
If you are thinking of homeschooling in the Tompkins county area, please consider joining Ithaca Community LEAH! We’d love to get to know you and to help you in any way we can.
